Male Athlete of the Week
Matthew Travaglini - cross-country running
SAIT Trojans men’s cross-country runner Matthew Travaglini ran his way to his second consecutive Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Cross-Country Running Championship this past weekend at the event hosted by Lakeland College in Vermilion, Alta.
His time of 25:46 was a full 20 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Travaglini’s individual success also led to team success, as his Trojans men’s team earned their third-straight ACAC title. Travaglini will now defend his CCAA National Championship on Nov. 10 at the National Championships hosted by Seneca College in Ontario.
Matthew Travaglini is a Geomatics Engineering Technology student at SAIT.
Female Athlete of the Week
Deanna Kuan - women's soccer
SAIT Trojans women's soccer player Deanna Kuan led her team to their first Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) championship final since 2002 this season, earning a silver medal.
Earlier in the week, Kuan was honoured at the Women's Soccer Championship banquet by being named an All-Conference selection as well as becoming the first Trojans women's soccer player to be named ACAC Player of the Year.
In Sunday's gold medal game, Kuan played her heart out, scoring her team's only goal in their 2-1 overtime loss.
She will now lead her team into the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) National Championships, hosted by Douglas College in Coquitlam, BC, Nov. 6-10.
Kuan is a Business Administration student at SAIT.
Trojan of the Week
Kelsey Patterson - women's hockey
SAIT Trojans women's hockey player Kelsey Patterson helped her team to their first win of the season this past weekend. On Friday night, the Trojans skated their way to a 3-1 victory.
The first-year forward from Castlegar, BC, not only scored her first career ACAC goal, but it turned out to be the game-winner.
Kelsey Patterson is a Civil Engineering Technology student at SAIT.
Team of the Week
Men's cross-country running
The SAIT Trojans men's cross-country running team pooled their talents this past weekend to capture their third-straight ACAC title at the Conference Championships hosted by Lakeland College in Vermilion, Alta.
The Trojans had four runners finish in the top seven — Matthew Travaglini finishing first, Jacques Saayman placing fourth, Daryl Ross fifth and Brant Lauweryssen seventh.
SAIT will now turn their attention to the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) National Championships on Nov. 10 hosted by Seneca College in southern Ontario.
