MVB | 23-24 Season Recap
MEN'S VOLLEYBALL
The Trojans men’s volleyball team had a very challenging season, but the team full of rookies showed flashes of promise and great things to come for the program.
Ten rookies made their debuts this year, including standouts Gustavo Machado and Diem Amuan, along with Nathan Thys, Jackson Proust, Nathan Wilchowy, Simon Johnson, Garrett Harvey, and Finley Rasmuson.
The team had just one win when the winter break rolled around, but came back determined to improve and won two of their first three games after the season started again, beating UAA and MHC.
Star outside hitter Jaxson Thys led the way for the Trojans all year, leading the team in kills (130), total attacks (143), and points (159), all while missing four games. The team leader accomplished all that while also mentoring a huge crop of new Trojans athletes.
Rookie Gustavo Machado, from Brazil, tied Jaxson Thys in total assists, and finished third on the team in points with 138. A star in the making, Machado is just one of many Trojans who should lead the program moving forward.
Along with Machado, fellow rookie Diem Amuan led the team in assists with 298, good for 13th in the conference. He also added 26 service aces, which was 8th in the conference.
With so many rookies, it was always going to be tough for the Trojans to make the playoffs. But looking to next year, with growth from their young guns, the 2024-25 season is shaping up to be a fun one.
