Trojans cap tough road trip with win over Kodiaks
LETHBRIDGE, ALTA., (Oct. 13, 2018) — The SAIT Trojans men's basketball team were not dealt a great hand to start the season, but they emerged unscathed and with four points in-hand.
Playing the second of back-to-back games on the road to start the season, the Trojans defeated the always-tough Lethbridge College Kodiaks 108-89 in their Saturday night Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game. Twenty-four hours previous, the Trojans were in Caronport, Sask handing the Briercrest College Clippers a 97-76 loss.
"I'm not going to lie, I was pretty nervous tonight," said Trojans head coach Marty Birky. "We're all really tired, but to get the win is everything. We knew we were the better team, but you never know how things go when you're a little more tired than usual."
SAIT moves to 2-0 on the season. Lethbridge College falls to 0-1.
John Smith (4th year, Lacey, Wash., Business Administration) led the Trojans with a game-high 31 points – including 12 in the final quarter to seal the win.
Teammate Charlie Conner (2nd year, Lacey, Wash., Business Administration) was his usual well-rounded self, scoring 22 points and adding eight assists and nine rebounds.
Orin Porter Jr., and Lincoln Anderson each scored 23 points in a losing effort for the Kodiaks.
The Trojans will stick around town next weekend with an away game against the St. Mary's University Lightning. Tip-off is set for 8pm at Glenmore Christian Academy.
