Trojans fire on all cylinders in win over Broncos
OLDS, ALTA., (Nov. 23, 2018) — The SAIT Trojans men's basketball team did everything just about right on Friday.
The Trojans excelled on defense and offense, as they cruised to a one-sided 110-71 victory over the host Olds College Broncos in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game.
"It was a good team win tonight. We had different guys going at different moments." said Trojans head coach Marty Birky. "Defensively, I think we were on another level tonight. Olds is a good team, but things went our way tonight."
SAIT, ranked No. 1 in Canada, move to 8-0 on the season. Olds College falls to 2-7.
The game was in hand by half, as the Trojans opened up a 33-point lead, 63-30. After that, Birky was able to get his bench into the game for some much-valuable playing time.
"For some of those guys, it was a learning experience in playing with the lead," he said. "That's a tough thing to do at times, and we saw that we have a ways to go in that aspect."
Ian Tevis (5th year, Kent, Wash., Office Professional) scored the entirety of his game-high 20 points by halftime and finished that way, as he sat nearly the entire second half.
Teammate Charlie Conner (2nd year, Lacey, Wash., Business Administration) was his usual quiet, but efficient-as-heck self, recording 18 points while adding 13 rebounds and seven assists.
Terence Crisostomo led the Broncos with 15 points.
The Trojans will complete their first semester of play next weekend when they welcome the Briercrest College Clippers for a pair of games – Friday night at 8pm, and Saturday afternoon at 3pm.
