Tevis leads Trojans past Rattlers
MEDICINE HAT, ALTA, (Feb. 15, 2019) — The SAIT Trojans men's basketball team were tested on Friday night, but ended up with a passing grade.
Ian Tevis (5th year, Kent, Wash., Office Professional) scored 29 points and added six steals as his Trojans beat the host Medicine Hat College Rattlers 106-99 in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game played in 'The Hat'.
"They're a physical team, and it was kind of an adjustment for us to play that way," said Trojans head coach Marty Birky. "It's good for us going into the playoffs, as we need to find ways to win games no matter how they're played."
SAIT moves to a league-best 18-1 on the season. The Rattlers fall to 12-7 on the year.
In the closely-contested game, SAIT's 33-24 edge in the second quarter seemed to be the difference maker.
In that quarter, SAIT veteran Nick Molina (5th year, Calgary, Business Administration) took over, scoring 14 points to give his team a 55-48 lead going into halftime. Molina finished the game with 17 points along with seven rebounds, four steals and four assists.
Rattlers forward Kieron Burgess was a beast, scoring 31 points and adding 18 rebounds in the loss.
The teams will finish their weekend set Saturday night at 8pm at SAIT's Campus Centre.
