Trojans drop third straight
EDMONTON, ALTA., (Jan. 20, 2019) — The SAIT Trojans men's hockey team are in a bit of a slump.
A 4-1 loss to the host MacEwan Griffins on Wednesday night has them losers of their last three and now tied for third place in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) standings.
"I thought we had a really good compete level tonight. I can't find a lot wrong with our effort," said Trojans head coach Brent Devost. "We had a few mistakes, and those turned into goals. That's going to happen with a good team like MacEwan."
SAIT falls to 16-7, while MacEwan now sits at 17-5-1.
The game was originally to be played on Jan. 26, but the sudden and unfortunate passing of MacEwan Griffins men's hockey player Nakehko Lamothe the night before following a game at SAIT resulted in a postponement.
The Trojans scored first in the game off the stick of Colton McCarthy (3rd year, Salmon Arm, BC, Geographic Information Systems).
MacEwan responded with four unanswered goals – two from Brett Njaa and solo markers from Austin Shmoorkoff and Stefan Danielson.
"Offensively, I thought we tried to be too fancy," Devost added.
The Trojans will return home, and then head right back out on the road, as they take on the host Briercrest College Clippers in a pair of games in Caronport, Sask., - Friday night and Saturday afternoon.
