Allison, Massy take home ACAC hardware
EDMONTON, ALTA., (March 23, 2019) - SAIT Trojans men's hockey player Dean Allison led the way on the ice and in the classroom this season.
Allison, who is the Trojans captain, was named the ACAC's Men's Hockey Top Scholastic Achiever in a ceremony held before Game 2 of the Championship Final series between the NAIT Ooks and MacEwan Griffins on Saturday night in Edmonton. The fourth-year winger from Surrey, BC, recorded a 4.0 GPA in his Bachelor of Business Administration program during the fall semester this season.
"Being a captain means more than just wearing a letter on your chest. It means you take on the task of setting an example for your team, not only on the ice but in the classroom as well," says Wade Kolmel, SAIT Athletics and Recreation Director. "He has done that to a remarkable level in his four seasons with the Trojans. He pushes his teammates, and fellow Trojan student athletes, to be better players, better students and better people."
This is the second straight season in which a Trojans men's hockey player has earned the award, as Joel Hamilton took home the honour last season.
The two join Clay Howe (2014), Jonathan Malin (2010) and Reese St. Goddard (2008) as Trojans men's hockey players who have also had their name etched onto the trophy.
Allison's hardware haul did not end there, as he was also named to the ACAC's Men's Hockey All-Conference First Team after leading the league in scoring with 38 points (13 goals, 25 assists) in 28 games this season.
It is Allison's second All-Conference selection, as he was also named to the First Team in 2017.
Trojans defenceman Kevin Massy earned his first career All-Conference nod after being named to the Second Team on Saturday night.
The 6-foot-4 blueliner matched his career high in points from last year, collecting 25 points (four goals, 21 assists) in 27 games this season.
