Daffalla nets a pair as Trojans rout Vikings
CAMROSE, ALTA., (Sept. 13, 2019) — The SAIT Trojans men's soccer team made it two wins in as many games to start the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) season.
Playing in Camrose, Alta., against the host University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings on Friday evening, the Trojans rolled to a 5-0 win to move their ACAC South Division record to 2-0.
"Our speed was a major factor today," said Trojans head coach, Connor Brady. "We have very quick players that want to get on the ball, and that helps us when they're engaged and active. Today, we played everybody a ton so it was more of a team win."
The loss dropped the Vikings' mark to 0-3.
By the time halftime rolled around, the Trojans had amassed a 4-0 lead thanks to a pair of goals from Sak Daffalla (1st year, Regina, Sask., Academic Upgrading).
Daffalla shined in last weekend's season-opening 3-0 victory over Olds College, but never found the scoresheet. He more than made up for that this time around.
"He puts himself in some very good spots, and he has to work hard to get into those positions," Brady said. "He deserves to score goals, and today he added some more composure to his game and it paid off for him."
Solo markers were netted by Bradley Atherton (2nd year, Calgary, Business Administration) and Armando Garcia (3rd year, Edmonton, Alta., Bachelor of Business Administration).
Krishneil Prakash (2nd year, Calgary, Business Administration) further added to SAIT's lead in the second half when he made good on a penalty kick.
SAIT will now turn their attention to Sunday's road matchup against the Red Deer College Kings. Game time is set for 2pm.
