Bertolesi, Garcia each strike twice in win over Kings
RED DEER, ALTA., (Sept. 15, 2019) — The SAIT Trojans men's soccer team capped off their weekend with another road win.
On Sunday, SAIT travelled up the road to Red Deer and doubled up the Red Deer College Kings 4-2 in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) contest.
"It was a good game. Red Deer's a hardworking team, they take pride in what they do and we knew that coming in," said Trojans head coach Connor Brady. "We feel like we were well-prepared and received an all-around performance from our group today."
SAIT's ACAC South Division record remains unblemished at 3-0. The Kings, however, lose their first of the season and fall to 2-1-1.
Teammates Martin Bertolesi (2nd year, Calgary, Business Administration) and Armando Garcia (3rd year, Edmonton, Alta., Bachelor of Business Administration) each scored goals in both the first and second half of the game to do all the scoring for the Trojans.
Garcia now leads the Trojans with three goals in three games.
SAIT will turn their attention to next weekend where they will play a home and an away game – Saturday at home against Medicine Hat College, and Sunday on the road against Lethbridge College.
Because of the back-to-back games that his team will play for the first time this season, Brady will rely on his team's depth, which he says is amongst the best on any team he has coached.
"We are definitely enjoying the luxury of having such a deep bench," he stated. "We know what we have, and have spent a ton of time preparing. Because of that, we don't have too many weaknesses throughout our 22-man roster. And with a pair of tough games set for next weekend, we will be utilizing that depth to try and grab two more wins."
