Trojans fall in four to Kodiaks
LETHBRIDGE, ALTA., (Oct. 19, 2018) — The battle of two undefeated teams did not go the way of the SAIT Trojans men's volleyball team on Friday night.
The Trojans fought to extend the match, but could not do so, losing 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-15, 26-24) to the host Lethbridge College Kodiaks in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) contest played in Lethbridge, Alta.
"Outside of the third set, it was a good battle with a good volleyball team," said Trojans head coach, Sean McKay. "They really defended well, and we could not terminate and end long rallies, and that came back to bite us – especially at the end of the match."
SAIT falls to 3-1 on the season. The Kodiaks improve to 3-0.
Tyler Latu'ila (4th year, Auckland, New Zealand, Bachelor of Business Administration) had a big game for the Trojans, recording a team-high 11 kills to go along with six digs, four blocks and two service aces.
Carter Hansen was a monster for the Kodiaks, putting away an impressive 21 kills.
The teams will finish their weekend set tomorrow night at SAIT in an 8pm start. McKay hopes his team learns from the loss and finds a way to split the two-game series.
"We definitely have to pass the ball better, but there are other things, too," he admitted. "I think if we sharpen up on serve receive, and terminate and side out sooner, we should be in good shape."
