Trojans silence Rattlers
MEDICINE HAT, ALTA., (Nov. 23, 2018) — Staying aggressive paid off for the SAIT Trojans men's volleyball team on Friday night.
After dropping Set 1, the Trojans took the next three as they rolled to a 3-1 (19-25, 26-24, 25-13, 25-22) victory over the host Medicine Hat College Rattlers in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) action played in southern Alberta.
"We started a little slow with some errors, but that same mentality is what carried us through the rest of the sets," said Trojans head coach Sean McKay. "If it would have continued into the second set, we might have put a cap on it, but we were not going to tell our guys to go timid, especially when the first set was that close."
SAIT moves to 7-4 on the year. The Rattlers fall to 6-5.
After two sets of tight volleyball, the Trojans routed the Rattlers in Set 3, winning 25-13.
"We had a ton of great serving pressure and that resulted in a lot of digs," McKay said. "And then guys started swinging hard and swinging high, and converting all those digs we had, which was nice."
Both Mark Anderson (4th year, Calgary, Bachelor of Business Administration) and Jarrett Noel (2nd year, Calgary, Geographic Information Systems) each had 14 kills for the Trojans.
KeAndre Evans led the Rattlers with 10 kills.
SAIT and Medicine Hat College will finish off their weekend set tomorrow at 8pm at SAIT.
