Trojans swept by Kodiaks
LETHBRIDGE, ALTA., (Jan. 19, 2019) — The SAIT Trojans men's volleyball team must have had a case of déjà vu Saturday night.
The team unfortunately replicated their defeat Friday night just 24 hours later, winning the first set and then losing the next three in a 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 25-17, 25-23) loss to the host Lethbridge College Kodiaks in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game.
"A little bit, but we were a much different team tonight. That didn't mean we played better, though" said Trojans coach Sean McKay about the similarities. "In the first set, we capitalized on their errors, but when things got thick, we started to make some of our own – too many to be successful."
SAIT falls to 12-6 on the season. Lethbridge stays perfect at 16-0.
"I think the guys now realize how they need to play when they are down, and how that can't be different when they're up," McKay added. "We have really been a good team when we're up three or four points, but now it's about being a good team when we're down and finding a way to claw our way back."
Jarett Noel (2nd year, Calgary, Geographic Information Systems) had a standout game, recording a game-high 22 kills to go along with eight digs and two blocks for the Trojans.
Lethbridge's Carter Hansen carded 20 kills to lead his team.
SAIT has a break next weekend, before returning to the court on Feb. 1 and 2 when they face another tough test in the Red Deer College Kings.
"I think the guys can always use the physical break, but it's just a matter of using it to get better and not just to get healthy," McKay finished.
