Trojans beaten in three sets
CARONPORT, SASK., (Feb. 9, 2019) — The SAIT Trojans men's volleyball team did not respond the way they would have wanted to.
Less than 24 hours after a disappointing 3-1 loss to the Briercrest College Clippers, the Trojans were handed a 3-0 defeat by the same team on Saturday afternoon in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game played in chilly Caronport, Sask.
"Our athletes were not in a mental state to perform, which was pretty upsetting to see," said Trojans head coach Sean McKay. "We have keep working on that as we have big games ahead of us. Each of them have to ask themselves how are you going to perform and what do you have to do to get ready?"
SAIT falls to 13-9 on the season. Briercrest jumps to 11-11.
The Trojans have now lost five of their last six games dating back to Jan. 18
Jarett Noel (2nd year, Calgary, Geographic Information Systems) and Tyler Latu'ila (4th year, Auckland, New Zealand) each recorded seven kills for the Trojans. Latu'ila added three service aces.
Bryton Codd led the Clippers with 11 kills and six digs.
The Trojans finish off their regular season next weekend against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers in a home-and-home series – Friday in Calgary, Saturday on the road.
The Trojans currently sit in third place in the ACAC South Division, and the Rattlers are nipping at their heels in fourth. McKay would like to keep it that way as the teams get set for the Conference Championship later this month in Edmonton.
"Placing is going to be huge, so if there was ever a sense of urgency, now is the time for it," McKay said. "Every game we play from now on is absolutely crucial."
