Third-quarter lapse costs Trojans
LETHBRIDGE, ALTA., (Jan. 18, 2019) — A lapse at the start of the third quarter sunk the SAIT Trojans women's basketball team Friday night.
A 14-1 run by the host Lethbridge College Kodiaks resulted in a 65-51 loss for the Trojans in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) battle.
"The first five minutes of that third quarter, they outworked us and that was that," said Trojans head coach Bir Parmar. "We turned the ball over too much. We made too many mistakes. We had a list of things we had to do in order to win this game, and we didn't do any of them."
SAIT falls to 4-9 on the year, while the Kodiaks jump to 8-5.
With this being the lone game the Trojans will play this weekend, not getting the 'W' was a tougher pill to swallow for Parmar.
"It was a game that could have gone either way, and for 35 minutes, that's what it was," he said. "We fell asleep for five minutes and paid the price for it."
Martina Allen (5th year, Calgary, Bachelor of Business Administration) led the Trojans with 10 points.
Kirsten Barwegen recorded a game-high 14 points for the host Kodiaks.
The Trojans return to action next weekend with a home-and-home series against the Olds College Broncos.
