Douglas leads Trojans to win over Lions
CALGARY, ALTA., (Feb. 8, 2019) — Maddy Douglas put her SAIT Trojans women's basketball team on her back on Friday night.
Playing their only game of the weekend, the first-year Nutrition for Heathy Lifestyles student from Rosemary, Alta., poured in 22 of her team's 51 points in their 51-35 victory over the host Ambrose University Lions in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) all-Calgary battle.
"Twenty-two points, five threes, and coming off the bench, yet," said Trojans head coach Bir Parmar about his rookie guard. "We talked before the game about what a little confidence will do for momentum. . . Boy, did she ever set the tone for us tonight."
SAIT improves to 5-13, while Ambrose falls to 3-16.
Douglas' teammate Mel Thera (5th year, Winnipeg, Man., EMT – Paramedic) had a solid all-around game, posting three points but adding 12 rebounds, eight assists and seven steals.
Paige Goertzen led the Lions with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
The Trojans will return to action next weekend with a tough home-and-home series against the Medicine Hat College Rattlers.
