Trojans bounced in ACAC opener
EDMONTON ALTA., (Oct. 18, 2019) - The first win of the season will have to wait for the SAIT Trojans women's hockey team.
Playing in their first Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game of the season, the Trojans allowed four unanswered goals as they fell to the host MacEwan Griffins 5-2 on Friday night in Edmonton, Alta.
SAIT falls to 0-1 on the season. MacEwan, who started their season last weekend, improves to 3-0.
The Trojans looked good early on, as Kelsey Patterson (2nd year, Castlegar, BC, Civil Engineering Technology) picked up where she left off after a strong rookie campaign last year with her first of the season to open the scoring.
Morgan Casson scored for the Griffins later in the first to tie the game at 1-1 after 20 minutes of play.
SAIT took the lead back 2:29 into the second period when Davina McLeod (3rd year, Aklavik, NWT, Business Administration) scored her first of the year.
Just over a minute, however, MacEwan tied the game and never looked back.
Jordyn Reimer and Jayme Doyle scored in the second, while Sydney Hughson and Chantal Ricker added third period markers to ice away the victory.
SAIT goalie Kaylin Schellenberg (2nd year, Airdrie, Alta., Business Administration) faced a jaw-dropping 61 shots in the loss, stopping 56 of them.
The teams will finish their weekend set Saturday night at SAIT in a 7pm puck drop.
