Talerico tempers excitement after 'sloppy' win
MEDICINE HAT, ALTA., (Sept. 29, 2018) — While the SAIT Trojans women's soccer team kept up their winning ways, head coach John Talerico says his team still has some work to do.
The Trojans scored three times in the first half and mirrored that output in the second, as they beat the host Medicine Hat College Rattlers 6-0 in their Saturday afternoon Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game played in Southern Alberta.
"It was a win, yes, but we were sloppy," said Talerico following the victory. "There were some bad habits that came out. Some of our finishes were spectacular, but I felt we could have done more."
The Trojans see their record move to an ACAC South Division-best 6-0, while the Rattlers fall to 1-5-1.
"We can't come into games just expecting teams to hand us a win because we've been playing so well," he added. "We need to learn from this, and come out tomorrow with a different attitude."
Cheyanne Holland (2nd year, Victoria, BC, Electrician) led the way with a pair of goals – both coming in the second half.
Solo markers were attained by Sarah Lepine (1st year, Calgary, Academic Upgrading), Mataya Blakney (5th year, Calgary, Bachelor of Business Administration), Skye Gordon (2nd year, Langley, BC, Bachelor of Business Administration) and Harleen Singh (1st year, Calgary, Academic Upgrading).
Amy Offredi (3rd year, Calgary, Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant) earned the win in net for the Trojans, stopping all four shots sent her way to record her sixth-straight shutout.
The Trojans will play hosts tomorrow afternoon when the Lethbridge College Kodiaks come to town for a noon start.
