Trojans beat Queens to remain on top of standings

RED DEER, ALTA., (Oct. 13, 2018) — The SAIT Trojans women's soccer team pulled out a big win on the road against the Red Deer College Queens Saturday afternoon.
In a game that featured the top two teams in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) South Division, the Trojans came out with the 4-2 victory to not only sweep the season series with the Queens, but remain undefeated at 8-0.
"We had a lot of opportunities, and we moved the ball really well, which is nice to see," said Trojans head coach, John Talerico. "A couple of disappointing goals, but it can happen. What's important was how we reacted after that and we were very positive."
Early in the game the Queens got on the board first with a strike from Emily Richard.
Ten minutes later SAIT's Deanna Kuan (3rd year, Edmonton, Alta., Business Administration) fired one past the goaltender to tie the game 1-1.
Further into the half, Jaime McPherson (1st year, Fort St. John, BC, Nutrition for Healthy Lifestyles) gave the Trojans the lead 2-1
.
At the 27th minute, the Queens came back with a goal of their own by Teryn Wright. to tie it 2-2.
Kuan scored her second of the contest just three minutes into the half to give the Trojans a lead they would not relinquish.
Sage Meyers (1st year, Cochrane, Alta., Mechanical Engineering Technology) scored an insurance marker to round out the scoring.
The women's team is back on the field Sunday afternoon to play against the host Lakeland College Rustlers in a 12pm start.
