Kuan takes home ACAC Player of the Year
CALGARY, ALTA., (Oct. 25, 2018) — SAIT Trojans women's soccer player Deanna Kuan made school history on Thursday night.
At the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Men's and Women's Soccer Championship banquet at SAIT, the third-year midfielder was named the ACAC's Women's Soccer Player of the Year – becoming the first Trojans women's soccer player to earn the award since it was first handed out in the fall of 2004.
"She is one of the most talented defensive midfielders I have ever seen," said Trojans head coach, John Talerico. "She is the epitome of practice makes perfect, as she has a work ethic second to none."
Kuan, who just two years ago was named the ACAC's Women's Soccer Rookie of the Year, helped her team to a perfect 12-0 season that granted them a bye into this weekend's semifinals on Saturday morning.
Defensively, Kuan controls the game by stifling the opposing team's attack, while also turning it into chances for her own side.
Gordon, Kuan and Lee get All-Conference nod
Three members of the SAIT Trojans women's soccer teams added to their trophy mantle Thursday night.
Defender Skye Gordon (2nd year, Langley, BC, Bachelor of Business Administration), midfielder Deanna Kuan (3rd year, Edmonton, Alta., Business Administration) and forward Maddie Lee (5th year, Lethbridge, Alta., Architectural Technologies) all were named to the ACAC's South Division All-Conference team after putting in terrific seasons on the pitch.
This is the third straight year in which Kuan has taken home an All-Conference nod. A true student of the game, her soccer IQ is amongst the highest in the league.
By working hard to better herself, she has also inspired her teammates to get better themselves. As a defensive midfielder, Kuan still scored five goals and added two assists in 12 games.
This is the second consecutive season as an All-Conference selection for Gordon, one of the team's captains who anchors the back end.
Coach John Talerico praises Gordon's vision and ability to provide timely setup balls all over the field when needed. From the back end, Gordon scored six goals and added seven assists in 12 games.
This is the first All-Conference nod for Lee, who joined the Trojans after playing four years at the USports level for the University of Calgary Dinos.
She wasted no time in setting herself apart, scoring seven goals in her first three games. Her leadership and attention to detail helped bring along some of the younger members of the team. She finished the season with 10 goals and nine assists in 10 games played.
