LETHBRIDGE, ALTA., (Sept, 8, 2018) - The SAIT Trojans men's and women's soccer teams each earned three points today, but went about in two very different ways.
The women's team started their respective Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) season with a 3-0 shutout of the host Lethbridge College Kodiaks.
SAIT took a 2-0 lead into the half thanks to goals from Autumn Schneider and Maddie Lee.
They added another in the second half when Mataya Blakney found the back of the net to ice the win.
Goalkeeper Amy Offredi earned the shutout victory.
The Trojans men's team needed some last-minute heroics to eek out a narrow 3-2 win over the Kodiaks.
Down 1-0 at half, the Trojans tied things when Daniel Arevalo scored his first of the year early on the second half.
The Kodiaks scored just minutes later to regain their one-goal lead.
In the 88th minute, Trojans rookie Bradley Atherton scored on a header to tie the game, and then followed it up with his second of the contest shortly after in extra time off a corner kick to give the Trojans their first win of the season.
The teams will try move to 2-0 on the season tomorrow afternoon at SAIT when they welcome the Medicine Hat College Rattlers to Cohos Commons Field. The women will start at noon with the men following at 2pm.
