Meyers, Lee aid Trojans' romp of Rattlers
CALGARY, ALTA., (Sept. 9, 2018) - SAIT Trojans newcomers Maddie Lee and Sage Meyers each scored a pair of goals to lead their team to a Sunday afternoon victory at Cohos Commons Field.
The Trojans scored three goals in the first half, and added three more after the break to beat the visiting Medicine Hat College Rattlers 6-0 in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game played in Calgary.
"We talked and moved the ball quick, and finished our chances," said Trojans head coach, John Talerico. "We could have finished more, but we did well today. Movement off the ball was key."
The victory gives SAIT a 2-0 record for the season, while the Rattlers fall to 0-2.
"Communication was really big for us today," said Trojans midfielder, Deanna Kuan. "That is such an important thing to do at this level, and we did a really good job of it this weekend - especially today."
Lee's two goals Sunday now give her three on the season in her team's first two games. Also scoring for the Trojans on the day was Kuan and Cheyanne Holland. Meyers' markers earned her the Trojans ACAC Player of the Game honours.
Goalkeeper Amy Offredi earned the win - and her second-straight shutout - in net for the Trojans. Rattlers keeper Kassidy Suberlak was tagged with the loss, but was named her team's ACAC Player of the Game.
The Trojans return to action next weekend with a pair of home games against Lakeland College on Saturday, and Red Deer College on Sunday. Both game times are set for noon.
