Trojans rout Broncos in matchup of South Division Nos. 1 and 2

CALGARY, ALTA., (Sept. 23, 2018) - The SAIT Trojans women’s soccer team took the buck out of the visiting Olds College Broncos on Sunday afternoon.
This Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) battle featured the top two teams in the South Division, and the Trojans showed why they are the No. 1 team in the league, cruising to a one-sided 5-0 victory. The game featured SAIT scoring one goal in the first half, and four in the second in what is quickly becoming a calling card for them.
Despite the slow start, head coach John Talerico said he liked the way his team controlled the flow of the game.
“It’s continuous; different players are upping their game each match and moving the play along which is good to see,” he stated.
SAIT moves to 5-0 on the season, while the Broncos drop to 3-2-1.
Mataya Blakney (5th year, Calgary, Business Administration) opened the scoring off an assist from Maddie Lee (5th year, Lethbridge, Alta., Architectural Technologies). Blakney’s goal would turn out to be the only tally of the first half.
Lee added her ninth of the season just minutes into the second half to put the Trojans up 2-0.
Skye Gordon (2nd year, Langley, BC, Business Administration) scored shortly after on a penalty shot to increase their lead to 3-0. Blakney added her second of the game, and eighth of the year, to put the home team up 4-0.
Sage Meyers (1st year, Cochrane, Alta., Mechanical Engineering Technology) put the finishing touch on the match scoring the fifth goal with a laser from just inside the box that went bar down.
SAIT's Player of the Game honour went to goalkeeper Amy Offredi (3rd year, Calgary, Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant), who was tested for the first time this season and responded big with save after save. Kathleen Andres earned the nod for the Broncos.
Tune in next week, as women’s soccer is back in action next weekend when they will travel to Medicine Hat College on Saturday, and then return home Sunday to host the Lethbridge College Kodiaks. Both games are set for a noon start.
