Trojan women earn split, men finish off sweep
CALGARY, ALTA., (Jan. 12, 2019) — The SAIT Trojans women's volleyball team was disappointed in their effort Friday night, so they made amends on Saturday.
The Trojans needed just three sets, as they beat the host Ambrose University Lions 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-15) in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) contest. The win comes one day after the Trojans were handed a 3-1 loss at home.
"We weren't happy with how we performed at home, so made sure that we executed better tonight and had a little more sense of urgency," said Trojans head coach Art O'Dwyer.
SAIT moves to 11-5 on the year. Ambrose falls to 9-7.
"If we don't bounce back tonight, we give up a large chunk of the good work we did in the first half, and we don't want to do that," O'Dwyer added.

On the men's side, the Trojans had to fight hard to earn a sweep of the Lions.
Down 2-1 in the match, SAIT came back and took Sets 4 and 5 to beat the home team 3-2 (25-18, 23-25, 19-25, 25-12, 15-12). This after the Trojans needed just three sets to get the job done 24 hours previous.
"In the second set, they made some changes with their lineup and we were too tentative on our changes," said Trojans head coach Sean McKay.
After getting down, McKay's team collected themselves and took Set 4 easily to send the match to a fifth set. There, SAIT was able to take a lead and never look back to secure the victory to move their ACAC record to 12-4.
"We went up early on some of their errors to start Set 4, and then our guys started to loosen up," McKay explained. "We were way too tense in Sets 2 and 3."
No stats were made available from the game.
Both Trojans teams return to the court next weekend with a pair of games against Lethbridge College – Friday night at home, Saturday night at Lethbridge.
