Trojans clinch playoff spot with win over Rattlers
CALGARY, (Feb. 15, 2019) — In her final game at SAIT's Campus Centre, it was only fitting that Simran Dhami finished things off.
The fifth-year Bachelor of Business Administration student from Golden, BC, wrapped up five years with the Trojans on Friday night, as her team rolled to a 3-0 (25-22-, 25-16, 25-21) over the visiting Medicine Hat College Rattlers in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game.
"It was amazing," Dhami said about earning the final point. "I would not trade my time here for the world. I've met so many good people that I am going to know for the rest of my life. . . I can't thank SAIT enough for the experience I have had here."
Also getting honoured in their final games were Trojans Hayli Hinchey (5th year, Edmonton, Alta., Bachelor of Business Administration), who played four years at SAIT, Veronica Headley (5th year, Calgary, Business Administration), who played three seasons at SAIT, and Taylor Ellis (4th year, Nanaimo, BC, Legal Assistant), who suited up for two seasons.
The win gives SAIT a 14-9 record, which clinches the fourth and final playoff spot in the South Division. The loss officially eliminated the Rattlers from the post-season, as they fell to 11-12.
SAIT had lost their last four games, but oddly enough, played four of their best games in those losses – two to Red Deer College, two to Briercrest College. Dhami said the team has focused on that, as they look towards the ACAC Championship, hosted by Calgary's Ambrose University, Feb 21-23.
"I'll say what my dad said – we're peaking at the right time," Dhami added. "I think we're going to surprise some teams at the Conference Championship."
The teams will wrap up their regular season Saturday night back in Medicine Hat at 6pm.
