Trojans drop tough one to Lions
CALGARY, ALTA., (Nov. 7, 2019) - In need of something to go their way, the SAIT Trojans women's volleyball team did not get their wish Thursday night.
After getting out to a 2-0 lead, the Trojans dropped the next three in a tough 3-2 (22-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-20, 17-15) loss to the host Ambrose University Lions in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) all-Calgary matchup.
"The outcome was frustrating, sure, but the positive was that we stuck to our game plan and we put them in a lot of trouble," said Trojans head coach, Art O'Dwyer. "We just need to find a way to get over that hump, or find that extra gear. We had a chance to win this match, but we need to figure out how to go up another level."
SAIT falls to 2-6 on the season. Ambrose moves to 4-4.
It is the second game that the Trojans have lost 17-15 in the final set to lose. Last week, it was against Medicine Hat College.
Instead of hanging his head about it, O'Dwyer says his young team is starting to come together more and more each day.
"We're starting to believe, and starting to see a little more cohesion on the court," he stated. "We're starting to see some of those positive things, but like I said, we need to be able to dig deep and find another gear when needed."
It will be deja vu all over again Friday night, as the Trojans and Lions will meet once again at Ambrose University in another 6pm start.
"This will be a real litmus test for us - how are we going to approach this? Are we going to be passive or are we going to send a message," O'Dwyer finished. "That's what my conversation will be with them tomorrow."
