Trojans host ACAC in the snow
CALGARY, ALTA., (Sept. 28, 2019) - The snow may have slowed traffic on Saturday, but it did not slow the cross-country runners of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC).
As winter made its presence known in Calgary, the SAIT Trojans hosted the season's fourth Grand Prix event of the year at Confederation Park. Most teams in the ACAC made a point of coming out, as the same course will play host to the Conference Championships on Oct. 26.
On the men's side of things, Red Deer College took the team title with Lethbridge College taking second place and SAIT placing third.
The SAIT men's team were missing some of their top runners in Michael Stewart and Jacques Saayman, but still managed a pair of Top 10 finishes, as Daryl Ross took fifth place in the 8-kilometre race in 29:06 and Brant Lauweryssen crossed the tape in seventh spot (29:22).
Michio Green of the University of Augustana placed first (28:11), with Lethbridge College's Connor Jackson taking second (28:22) and Red Deer College runner Daniel Szucs finished in third (28:42).
Trojans women's team member Emilie Mann raced in her first event of the year, and placed second overall in the ladies 6km event with a time of 25:10. Lethbridge College's Sophia Nowicki placed first, while her teammate, Rosie Bouchard took third.
Fellow Trojan Ann Danard placed seventh with a time of 26:14.
Next up for the Trojans is the season's fifth and final Grand Prix, hosted by Augustana in Camrose, Alta.
