Roadtrip to Edmonton ends in defeat
EDMONTON, ALTA., (Nov. 16, 2019) - The SAIT Trojans men's hockey team will end the weekend with the same amount of points they had going into it.
The Trojans gave up three unanswered goals Saturday night, to fall 3-2 to the host MacEwan University Griffins in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game played in Edmonton. On Friday, the Griffins skated to a 4-1 victory at SAIT Arena.
"Their last two goals were power play goals that came on what we thought were iffy penalties, but that's going to happen," said Trojans head coach Tyler Drader. "We have to find ways to kill them off."
SAIT falls to 4-3-1-2 on the year. MacEwan improves to 7-3.
"We just have to do a better job of supporting the puck, and coming up as a unit," Drader added. "We turned too many pucks over at our blue line. We have to be better in our zone."
Zach McNeill (3rd year, Calgary, Business Administration) and Kord Pankewicz (3rd year, Leduc, Alta., Pre-Employment Carpenter) scored for the Trojans in the loss.
Nicolas Correale scored twice for the host Griffins, with Kole Gable scoring the winner with just over two minutes remaining in the game.
Kyle Dumba (1st year, Calgary, Business Administration) kept his team in the game with 48 saves on the night.
SAIT will return to action next weekend when they take on the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings in a home-and-home series - Friday night in Camrose, Alta., Saturday night at home.
