Secondary scoring leads Trojans over Clippers
CARONPORT, SASK., (Jan. 17, 2020) - Secondary scoring is becoming more prevalent with the SAIT Trojans men's hockey team.
The Trojans beat the host Briercrest College Clippers 8-3 Friday night in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) action played in Caronport, Sask. On top of the win, head coach Tyler Drader was excited to see some new names on the scoresheet.
"That's what I told the boys after the game; it's nice to see guys contributing who maybe don't usually," he said following the game. "We all grind and work together as one unit, so it's nice when guys get rewarded for their hard work."
SAIT moves to 8-6-1-2 on the season, while the Clippers fall to 3-11-2-1.
Parker Evans-Campbell (4th year, High River, Alta., Bachelor of Business Administration) scored twice for the Trojans.
Also finding the back of the net was Michael Di Lullo (1st year, Edmonton, Alta., Bachelor of Business Administration), Tory McLean (2nd year, Niagara Falls, Ont., Business Administration), Jared Power (1st year, Calgary, Business Administration), Kord Pankiewicz (3rd year, Leduc, Alta., Business Administration), Joren Patenaude (2nd year, Calgary, Business Administration) and Cory Santoro (3rd year, Kelowna, BC, Bachelor of Business Administration).
For Di Lullo and McLean, it was their first goals of the season. To see them score the first two goals of the game for the Trojans gave the team a boost, Drader stated.
SAIT net minder Kyle Dumba (1st year, Calgary, Business Administration) stopped 44 of 47 shots fired his way to pick up the win.
Replying for the Clippers were Josh Boelema, Sam Lawson and Jamieson Ree.
The teams will wrap up their weekend set tomorrow afternoon at 1pm.
