SAIT sweeps Ambrose University
CALGARY, ALTA., (Nov. 8, 2019) - For the second straight night, the SAIT Trojans men's volleyball were about as dominant as it gets.
The Trojans played their second game at Ambrose University in as many nights, and both times out they needed just the minimum to earn the victory, winning 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-19) in Friday's latest instalment of their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) battle.
"Thursday night, we didn't actually play all that well. It was more a matter of them letting us off the hook a lot," said Trojans outside Tyler Latu'ila (5th year, Auckland, New Zealand, Bachelor of Business Administration). "Tonight, we had a great start to each set and we knuckled down on our serving."
SAIT, ranked No. 1 in Canada by the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) moves to 8-1 on the season. Ambrose falls to 1-8.
Noticeable by his absence was outside Jarett Noel (3rd year, Calgary, Geographic Information Systems). He suffered a lower-body injury early in Thursday's win and did not finish the game, or play on Friday.
Riley Grusing (3rd year, Calgary, Civil Engineering Technology) stepped in for Noel, and impressed his teammates with his steady play.
"It was sick that Riley gets the opportunity to step up, and he did just that that tonight," Latu'ila stated. "We're really proud of him coming in and filling that role for us."
The Trojans will now have a bye this coming weekend before heading to Caronport, Sask., to take on an always-tough Briercrest College Clippers team for a pair of games inside an equally-as-tough-to-play-in gym.
"It will be a big challenge for us because they are playing really well right now," said Latu'ila. "We'll see how it goes."
