Trojans use double OT to grab win No. 1
OLDS, ALTA., (Nov. 7, 2019) - The monkey is off the collective backs of the SAIT Trojans women's hockey team.
The Trojans climbed back from a 3-0 deficit to beat the Olds College Broncos 4-3 in double overtime to earn their very first win of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) season.
"It felt good," said Trojans captain Tashel Scantlebury (5th year, Foxwarren, Man., Community Economic Development). These girls have been working hard all season and they have deserved better than six losses to start the year. We have a happy team right now, and I couldn't be more proud of them."
SAIT finally gets into the win column and now stand at 1-6. Olds College fall to 0-6-1.
"We're rolling now," laughed Scantlebury.
After falling behind 3-0 at one point, the Trojans kept putting pressure on their hosts. It paid off in the form of goals from Brynn Ferguson (1st year, Regina, Sask., Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant), Bryn Hill (1st year, Hay River, NWT, Health Fundamentals) and Brittany MacDonald (3rd year, Calgary, Medical Radiologic Technology).
In double overtime, Kelsey Patterson (2nd year, Castlegar, BC, Civil Engineering Technology) ended the contest with her second of the season.
"We never quit, and we were able to create some of our own luck tonight," Scantlebury explained. "At the end there, we got a bounce that we felt we deserved."
The Trojans will try make it two in a row when the teams wrap up their weekend set on Saturday night at SAIT. Puck drop is 7pm.
