Trojans fall to NAIT, will play for ACAC bronze
EDMONTON, ALTA., (Oct. 26, 2019) - The SAIT Trojans women's soccer team still have a medal in their sights.
The Trojans were beaten 1-0 in Saturday morning's Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Soccer Championship semifinal by the host NAIT Ooks, sending them to the bronze medal game.
"The wind was a huge factor for both teams, as it was difficult play a more controlled game," said Trojans head coach John Talerico. "It was a very physical game, but we did not give up and fought right until the very whistle."
The game saw NAIT score the only goal needed in the 19th minute when Amanda Giesbrecht headed in a rebound past Trojans keeper Stine Thorne (1st year, Calgary, Nutrition for Healthy Lifestyles).
"Both teams had a couple of great scoring chances, but unfortunately NAIT was able to get one on theirs into the back of our net," Talerico stated.
With the Ooks headed to Sunday's championship final, SAIT will now play for bronze against Lethbridge College, who lost 1-0 in double overtime to the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder in Saturday's other semifinal.
The teams played twice in the regular season, with SAIT holding a 1-0-1 advantage.
