Sweep not in the cards for Trojans
CALGARY, ALTA., (Nov. 24, 2018) — After winning 3-0 on Friday night, things did not go as smoothly on Saturday.
The Trojans were beaten 3-1 (25-23, 25-17, 24-26, 25-20) by the visiting Medicine Hat College Rattlers in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game played inside SAIT's Campus Centre.
"That may have been in our minds a little bit. I'm not sure, said Trojans head coach Art O'Dwyer when asked if his team took the Rattlers too lightly on Saturday. "For some reason, our execution was really off in every area. I don't have the stats in front of me, but I don't think (Medicine Hat) earned too many points."
SAIT falls to 8-4 on the year. Med Hat improves to 7-5.
The loss comes 24 hours after a great game by the Trojans, which makes Saturday's effort all that more confusing.
"We played as well as we have all year on Friday, and tonight for us to go out there like that was tough to take," O'Dwyer added.
The Trojans took back a little momentum in the third set, rallying from being down 17-11 at one point to extend the match.
That effort to save the game seemed to gas the Trojans, as they could not find a way to win Set 4 and send the match to a fifth set.
Jadyn Leong (2nd year, Calgary, Emergency Medical Technician) led the Trojans with 18 kills and nine digs.
Brooke Christie paced the Rattlers with a team-high 10 kills.
The Trojans will try get back into the win column next weekend when they take on the Olds College Broncos in a pair of games – Friday night in Olds, and Saturday night back at SAIT.
"The reality is our players need to think about how to hold themselves accountable," O'Dwyer finished. "I told them they have an hour to be upset about tonight, but then we move on to next week and figuring out how we are going to be better."
