Trojans cannot complete comeback against Clippers
CARONPORT, SASK., (Feb. 8, 2019) — The SAIT Trojans women's volleyball team came oh so close.
After climbing back from a 2-0 deficit, the Trojans took the next two, but ended up falling 3-2 (25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 22-25, 15-9) to the host Briercrest College Clippers in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game played in Caronport, Sask.
"I have to give our team credit; we were really resilient tonight," said Trojans head coach Art O'Dwyer. "This is a tough place to play . . . It was a really good match, but it's unfortunate that we couldn't come away with the win. We worked really hard."
SAIT falls to 13-8 on the season, while the Clippers stay atop the ACAC's South Division at 19-2.
"What I was really happy with was in the third and fourth sets, we started serving them as aggressively as they were serving us," O'Dwyer added. "We did a great job of putting them in a tough spot, and matching them in that aspect of the game."
Jadyn Leong (2nd year, Calgary, EMT) led the Trojans with 12 kills and eight digs, while teammate Simran Dhami (5th year, Golden, BC, Bachelor of Business Administration) added eight kills and five service aces.
Becky Garner had a big game for the victorious Clippers, recording a game-high 22 kills and seven service aces.
The teams will finish their weekend set tomorrow morning at noon (MST).
"We just need to make the decision to compete hard again," finished O'Dwyer. "We'll need to have a better start, for sure."
