Trojan trio named to All-Conference Team
EDMONTON, ALTA., (March 5, 2020) – The efforts of three members of the SAIT Trojans women's hockey team has ended a two-year drought.
Goalie Kaylin Schellenberg, defenseman Tashel Scantlebury and forward Kelsey Patterson were all named to the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women's Hockey All-Conference Second Team Thursday afternoon, hours before Game 1 of the league's Championship Final between the MacEwan Griffins and NAIT Ooks.
The trio, who each earn the award for their first time in their ACAC careers, are the first Trojans to earn All-Conference consideration since the 2016-17 season.
Schellenberg (2nd year, Calgary, Business Administration) becomes the first SAIT goalie to be named since Laticia Castillo was named in 2017. The second-year netminder had a solid year for the Trojans, finishing third in the league in save percentage (.923).
Her hard work down the stretch played a big role in her team earning their first playoff berth since 2017.
Scantlebury (5th year, Foxwarren, Man., Community Economic Development) saved her best season for last, as she recorded a career-high 17 points (5g, 12a) in 23 games this season.
She earns the first defenseman All-Conference award for SAIT since Cora Sutton was named in 2017.
Patterson (2nd year, Castlegar, BC, Civil Engineering Technology) improved on an impressive rookie season, by finishing second in the league in points (24) and goals (13).
Her 24 points are the most by a SAIT player in nearly a decade, as Lindsey Audia recorded 29 in 2010-11.
Patterson becomes the first Trojans forward to earn an All-Conference award since Becca Glackin was named in 2013-14.
