WVB | 23-24 Season Recap
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
The SAIT Trojans women’s volleyball team battled hard all year in the 2023-24 season, unfortunately missing the playoffs due to a tiebreaker.
Finishing the year 8-11, the same record as the Lethbridge Kodiaks - who made the postseason - the Trojans came one win shy of getting a spot in the championship playoffs, but showed heart after starting the season 1-3.
Despite the disappointing end to the season, many Trojans players had stand-out years as the team fought to win three of their last five games before their final game against Lakeland.
LeeAnne Arnott finished the year fifth in the conference in kills (219) and kills per set (3.04), as well as sixth in the conference in points (258) and points per set (3.6). The star outside hitter started 18 of SAIT’s 19 games and finished fifth in the conference in total sets played.
Trojans setter Grace Florence also shined this year, with 442 total assists, good for seventh in the conference. She also finished second on the team in service aces with 24.
Emileigh Inglis finished the year with 192 digs, leading SAIT and ending ninth in the conference.
SAIT came out of the winter break determined to make a run at the playoffs, knowing they would need to win at least four of their last seven games to have a chance. After dropping the first game back, they beat MHC on back-to-back days, and then beat The King’s University after falling to Lethbridge.
Unfortunately, they went up against the 17-1 Lakeland Rustlers in their final game of the year, needing a win to have a chance of making the playoffs. They fought hard, but ultimately fell. Even though they didn’t make it to the post-season, the team should be proud of the fight they showed all year after a tough start.
Head coach Chantelle LaMotte and the Trojans will look to bounce back and battle for a playoff spot again next year.
