Trojans fall for the first time
CALGARY, ALTA., (Nov. 21, 2019) - The SAIT Trojans men's basketball team tasted defeat for the first time this season.
In an all-Calgary Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Thursday night affair, the Trojans were beaten 97-90 by the host Ambrose University Lions.
"Hats off to Ambrose. We came back and tied it, even took the lead, in the fourth quarter and then they made a bunch of key shots," said Trojans head coach Marty Birky. "We ran out of gas at the end. It took all we had to come back, but we didn't have enough to keep the lead."
SAIT falls to 6-1 on the season. Ambrose improves to 5-3.
"In this league, you can catch an 'L' any night. Tonight shows it," Birky added. "We got beat in just about every category. They shot the ball well, and they shared the ball well."
Calvin Chambers (4th year, Memphis, Tenn., Business Administration) led the Trojans with 27 points, while Gemie Muya (2nd year, Toronto, Ont., Office Professional) added 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Isaac Grey led the Lions with 23 points and nine rebounds.
The Trojans will look to get back into the win column Saturday night when they head up the road to take on the Olds College Broncos. Game time is set for 8pm.
"There's a lot we can learn from this, and we need to get better every week," Birky finished. "The season is a grind, and it's all about making it to March."
