Trojans offence clicks in win over Broncos
OLDS, ALTA., (Nov. 23, 2019) - The SAIT Trojans men's basketball team rebounded from their first loss of the season in style.
The Trojans seemingly scored at will, as they beat up the host Olds College Broncos 118-85 on Saturday night in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) action played in Olds, Alta.
The win comes after the Trojans suffered their first defeat on Thursday night against the Ambrose University Lions.
"We just had to get back to basics and stick to what we do - simplify things on defence and be more aggressive with the ball," said Trojans head coach Marty Birky. "We also shot the ball considerably better today, but that goes with better ball movement and better shot selection."
SAIT improves to 7-1 on the season, while Olds falls to 0-8.
Tyis Yellow Horn (3rd year, Strathmore, Alta., Business Administration) and Calvin Chambers (4th year, Memphis, Tenn., Business Administration) each scored 21 points in the win.
Muktar Mohamed led the Broncos with 21 points of his own.
The Trojans will now turn their attention to next weekend when they take on the Lethbridge College Kodiaks in a home-and-home series. With Lethbridge still unbeaten at 8-0, the weekend has first place in the ACAC South Division up for grabs.
"Battle for first place is next week, and you want to go into it feeling good," Birky said. "I think we've done that after tonight's win."
