Trojans swept by Kodiaks
CALGARY, ALTA., (Nov. 29, 2019) - For the second straight night, the SAIT Trojans men's basketball team were handed a loss at the hands of the Lethbridge College Kodiaks.
In a fast-paced Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game played at SAIT's Campus Centre on Friday night, the Trojans were beaten 99-83 by the Kodiaks. Just 24 hours earlier, SAIT found themselves on the short end of a 118-85 decision.
"We didn't play defence, we didn't hit shots. That's basically it," said Trojans head coach Marty Birky before quickly ushering his team off the court for a post-game chat.
SAIT falls to 7-3 on the season, and with Friday's loss the last game they'll play until 2020, the three-time defending ACAC champs have now lost three of their last four.
Last season, SAIT lost just once on their way to a 20-1 season.
A tough-shooting first half for the home team saw the visiting Kodiaks take a substantial 54-35 lead into the break. After that, SAIT was able to make runs to cut into the lead, but was not able to do enough.
Charlie Conner (3rd year, Lacey, Wash., Business Administration) led the Trojans with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Teammate Gemie Muya (2nd year, Toronto, Ont., Office Professional) added 14 points and 15 rebounds.
Brock Dewsbery led the Kodiaks with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
The Trojans return to action Jan. 17 and 18 when they meet St. Mary's University in a home-and-home series to start the new year.
