Trojans split in regular season closer
BRIERCREST, SASK., (Feb. 29, 2020) - Much like the night before, the SAIT Trojans basketball teams split their contests against the host Briercrest College Clippers.
In their last Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) regular season games of the season, the Trojans men's team picked up a narrow 98-95 victory, while the women fell 86-79.
In the men's game, SAIT head coach Marty Birky spread around the minutes, allowing his starters a little more rest time than usual with the ACAC Men's Basketball Championship - hosted by the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings in Camrose, Alta., - set for next weekend.
Gemie Muya (2nd year, Toronto, Ont., Office Professional) had a big game for the Trojans, scoring 19 points and adding 18 rebounds. Rookie Ben Kamba (1st year, Calgary, Business Administration) added a season-high 14 points
Brandon Tolentino led the Clippers with 25 points.
SAIT finishes the regular season with a 17-4 record, good for second place in the ACAC South Division standings. Briercrest fell to 9-12 and just narrowly miss the playoffs.
On the women's side, the Trojans say goodbye to a very disappointing season in which they went 5-16.
In their final game of the season, guard Skyler MacDonald (2nd year, Vancouver, Business Administration) scored a team-high 25 points while adding seven rebounds and four assists.
Teammate Rachel Osczevski (3rd year, Rocky Mountain House, Alta., Nutrition for Healthy Lifestyles) added 18 points and 15 rebounds.
Angenay Williams again led the Clippers, this time scoring a game-high 42 points while hauling down 12 rebounds.
