Power, McCarthy go off in win over Vikings
CAMROSE, ALTA., (Nov. 22, 2019) - It would have been a very smart to start Jared Power and Colton McCarthy in your fantasy draft tonight.
Power scored twice and added four assists while McCarthy tallied once and dished out five assists, as the Trojans won 8-5 over the host University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) action played Friday night in Camrose, Alta.
"We'll see who has the bigger mouth on the bus," laughed Power (1st year, Calgary, Business Administration) when asked if his two goals gives him bragging rights over McCarthy. "Our power play was going tonight, and we were happy to see that. Hopefully we can continue that success going forward."
The rookie forward has had no trouble adjusting to life in the ACAC, as he now has 14 points (9 goals, 5 assists) in 11 games.
McCarthy (4th year, Salmon Arm, BC, Geographic Information Systems) jumped his point total to an amazing 16 points (3 goals, 13 assists) in just seven games after missing time earlier in the season due to suspension.
SAIT improves to 5-3-1-2 on the season. The Vikings fall to 4-7.
Despite the big number on their end of the scoreboard, the Trojans actually found themselves down 1-0 after the first period.
"They scored a couple of minutes in, and it was a good wakeup call for us," Power stated. "It was a bit of a crazy roller coaster, but we stuck with it and kept pushing back at them."
Trojans forward Eric Krienke (3rd year, Calgary, Business Administration) scored twice, while Zach McNeill (3rd year, Calgary, Business Administration), Mark Drohan (1st year, Calgary, Academic Upgrading) and Jackson McKinstry (3rd year, Calgary, Business Administration) added solo markers.
The teams will complete their home-and-home series Saturday night at SAIT in a 7pm puck drop.
