Lambele nets three as Trojans silence Rattlers
MEDICINE HAT, ALTA., (Sept. 29, 2018) — Joseph Lambele broke out in a big way for the SAIT Trojans men's soccer team on Saturday.
The second-year Business Administration student from Fort McMurray, Alta., scored three goals in 15 minutes in the opening half as his Trojans closed out a 5-1 decision over the host Medicine Hat College Rattlers in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) battle.
"It's nice to see Joey come out and score a couple of goals. It's not that he hasn't been playing well, he's just been a bit unfortunate," said Trojans head coach, Connor Brady. "For a young player like him to step up and have a strong day like he did today, it means a lot to us and our program."
SAIT moves to 6-0 on the season. Med Hat falls to 3-3-1.
"Our plan is always to control the pace of the game, and we do that by dictating the pace of the game," Brady added. "To come out as fast as we did and keep the pedal down allowed us to follow the game plan to a tee and execute the way we wanted."
Adding to the Trojans' goal count in the second half were Danny Arevalo (1st year, Calgary, Academic Upgrading) and Krishneil Prakash (1st year, Calgary, Bachelor of Business Administration).
The Trojans return to action tomorrow afternoon with a 2pm date with the visiting Lethbridge College Kodiaks.
The first time the Trojans and Kodiaks met, SAIT needed late heroics from Brad Atherton (1st year, Calgary, Business Administration) to tie and then go ahead and, ultimately, pull out a 3-2 victory.
Brady is expecting another tight game, but says his team is welcoming the challenge.
"For us, in the second half of the season it's about having better results than we did in the first half," explained Brady. "We're going to the same thing tomorrow that we try do every day, and that's be better than we were the day before."
