RED DEER, ALTA. (Oct. 13, 2018) — The SAIT Trojans men's soccer team won a close battle against the Red Deer College Kings on Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans remain undefeated at 8-0 after beating the Kings 3-1 in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game. Trojans head coach Connor Brady says staying unbeaten brings pressure, but also an ongoing commitment to staying consistent.
"This group has a willingness to want to work, so that's a really good sign for us and they really care about one another and for us we're never happy we always want to improve and get better," said Brady. "We have an expectation of ourselves where losing shouldn't be an option."
The Trojans held a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half thanks to a goal from Brad Atherton (1st year, Calgary, Business Administration).
Early in the second half, the Kings answered back to tie the game up 1-1, but the Trojans later scored in the 74th minute to take back the lead for good when Armando Garcia (2nd year, Edmonton, Alta., Graphic Communications and Print Technology) scored the first of his two second-half goals to seal the win.
Despite the win, Brady said he knows his team can play better.
"Today I think we were a little panicked. We've had some unexpected time off and playing a tough team like Red Deer is not easy coming off a low period, but at the end of the day we can play poorly and still find a way to win," said Brady.
The Trojans are back in action tomorrow afternoon at Lakeland College, taking on the Rustlers at 2pm.
