Trojans tame Lions
CALGARY, ALTA., (Oct. 18, 2019) - The SAIT Trojans men's soccer team have their collective foot on the gas pedal.
The Trojans have now scored 24 goals in their last three games, the final nine coming Friday afternoon in a 9-0 decision over the visiting Ambrose University Lions in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game at Cohos Commons Field.
"For us, it was about maybe not over coaching and pulling the reins back on tactics and trusting the players a little more," said Trojans head coach Connor Brady. "We've done that lately, and it seems to be working so far."
The Trojans move to 9-1-1 on the season. Ambrose University falls to 0-11.
Armando Garcia (3rd year, Edmonton, Alta., Bachelor of Business Administration) led the way for SAIT with three goals, while Amel Bajric (2nd year, London, Ont.,. Business Administration) and Martin Bertolesi (2nd year, Calgary, Business Administration) each scored twice.
Brad Atherton (2nd year, Calgary, Bachelor of Business Administration) and Eduardo Filho (4th year, Paracatu, Brazil, Environmental Technology) added singles.
SAIT will finish their regular season on Sunday, when they head to Lacombe, Alta., and meet the Olds College Broncos at 2pm.
"I'd say this game will be the hungriest you'll see our group," Brady said. "For us, this is a game that we will be using to prepare for the Conference Championship, and hopefully wrap up first place in our division. We certainly won't be taking that game for granted."
