Trojans volleyball teams bounced in Red Deer
RED DEER, ALTA., (Nov. 29, 2019) - The SAIT Trojans volleyball teams had a tough night in Red Deer.
Both the men's and women's team fell to the host Red Deer College Kings/Queens - with the men falling 3-0 (26-24, 25-17, 25-20) and the women losing 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-23, 25-10).
After three evenly played sets, Trojans women's team head coach Art O'Dwyer could only watch as his team was run over in the fourth and final set.
"We got in trouble early in the fourth set, and lost some confidence," said O'Dwyer, whose team falls to 2-10 on the season. "Then we were giving them an easy ball, if we were giving it back at all. You do against a good team, you're going to pay."
Trojans outside Jadyn Leong (3rd year, Calgary, Business Administration) led her team with 15 kills and 10 digs. Teammate Irina Korovina (2nd year, Calgary, Business Administration) added eight kills and six digs.
On the men's side, Riley Grusing (3rd year, Calgary, Civil Engineering Technology) was one of few bright spots for his team as he recorded 14 kills in the loss.
The teams will wrap up their weekend set Saturday night at SAIT with the women starting at 6pm, and the men following at 8pm.
"We're not a super happy team right now," said Trojans men's team head coach Dallas Soonias. "We know we have to change a lot, so we'll see if we come through with any of the actual changes or if we're just talk."
