Trojans make quick work of Kodiaks
CALGARY, ALTA., (Feb. 14, 2020) - The SAIT Trojans men's volleyball team took care of business in a hurry Friday night.
The Trojans needed the minimum to defeat the visiting Lethbridge College Kodiaks 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-21) in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game played at SAIT's Campus Centre.
"We've had a couple of good weeks of training, we had a bye week, so I think the fellas were just really focused on the things we have been working on," said Trojans head coach Dallas Soonias.
SAIT improves to 17-6 on the season, while Lethbridge College falls to 17-4.
Since it was the final home game of the regular season, Trojan veterans Mark Anderson (5th year, Calgary, Bachelor of Business Administration) and Tyler Latu'ila (5th year, Auckland, New Zealand, Bachelor of Business Administration) were honoured post-game for five years of service to the Trojans.
Latu'ila finished his last game inside SAIT Gymnasium with a game-ending kill on an overpass by the Kodiaks in Set 3.
"Tyler had, probably, his most consistent game of the year," Soonias added. "It's nice when you do that on Senior Night."
Latu'ila finished the game with seven kills, while setter Maddux Greves (2nd year, Calgary, Business Administration) dished out 29 assists to go along with three aces.
Lethbridge, who got minutes from everyone on their team, was led by Carter Hansen's five kills.
The teams will meet up Saturday night at 8pm in Lethbridge, as SAIT finishes out their regular season schedule before taking part in the Conference Championship tournament - hosted by the same Lethbridge College Kodiaks in late February.
