Trojans fall in regular season finale in Lethbridge
LETHBRIDGE, ALTA., (Feb. 15, 2020) - Saturday's regular season finale did not go well for the SAIT Trojans men's and women's volleyball teams.
The men's side was dumped 3-0 (25-15, 26-24, 25-20), while the women ended their 2019-20 season with a tough 3-2 (25-19, 22-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-11) loss.
The women's game marked the final game as head coach of the women's program for Art O'Dwyer. He announced earlier this week that he will be stepping down from the role.
In a classy gesture, the Kodiaks presented O'Dwyer with a game ball prior to the match to commemorate his final Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game.
Jadyn Leong (3rd year, Calgary, Business Administration) led the Trojans in the match with 20 kills and 16 digs. Rookie Brooke Litwinski (1st year, Red Deer, Alta., Journalism) added 15 kills, three service aces, two blocks and nine digs.
Jamie Brown led the Kodiaks with 11 kills and 13 digs.
The Trojans finished their season out of a playoff spot at 6-18.
In the men's game, the tables were turned on the Trojans, as just one night earlier SAIT handed the Kodiaks a three-set loss at the Campus Centre.
Jarett Noel (3rd year, Calgary, Geographic Information Systems) led SAIT with 11 kills.
Carter Hansen led the Kodiaks with nine kills.
SAIT falls to 17-7, while Lethbridge College improves to 18-4.
The Trojans will now have a bye before they take on the ACAC's best at the Conference Championship, set for Lethbridge College at the end of the month.
