Calgary, ALTA (October 19, 2023) – Grant O’Gorman take over the SAIT Trojans Men’s Volleyball Program
With the regular season underway, the SAIT Athletics & Recreation department is excited to announce that former National Team Beach Volleyball player Grant O’Gorman will take the reins of the men’s volleyball program for the 23-24 season. After an 11-year career on the National stage and over 100 international competitions, O’Gorman is bringing a high-performance mentality to the Trojans team.
When asked about the upcoming season and his future for SAIT Trojans Men’s Volleyball, O’Gorman said; “I'm excited to be back on the hard court and to lead the Trojans. I'm looking forward to helping this program succeed on and off the court, as well as create a new pathway for men's beach volleyball in Canada. Future athletes can expect 1-2 beach training sessions per week year-round, as well as training indoor and competing against the top teams in the ACAC.”
While O’Gorman’s pre-international playing career saw him as a versatile & adaptable player with the ability to transform from outside hitter to libero. Grant’s talent & passion led him to beach volleyball where he found international success & recognition. When it comes to the Trojan’s, Grant is excited to bring a multi-sport approach to the team and use beach volleyball as a training tool.
“We are extremely excited to bring someone into the Trojans family that comes from such a high-performance background and isn’t afraid to switch things up” Says Lauren Kucera, SAIT’s Manager of Athletics. “Grant understands what it takes to be the best and has some exciting ideas for the future of the Trojans men’s volleyball program, including using beach volleyball as a training tool & team building opportunity.”
The regular has begun with the Trojans teeing up against 2 of the top ranked teams in the league. The team fought hard and showed potential that will make the rest of the season exciting to watch, but do start the season with an 0-4 record. The men are back in action this weekend, taking on Old’s college at Rally Pointe on Friday, October 27th. Entry is free, so come on down to cheer on your SAIT Trojans.
