SAIT suffers setback at home
CALGARY, (Jan. 25, 2019) — In a game where the SAIT Trojans women's basketball team needed a good start to compete, they did not get it.
The Trojans found themselves down 10-2 three minutes into the game, and it didn't get much better from there, as the Trojans fell 84-39 to the visiting Olds College Broncos in their Friday-night Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game played inside SAIT's Campus Centre.
"They are a strong team, and we definitely slacked off for the first five minutes and there was no coming back from it," said Trojans post Mel Thera (5th year, Winnipeg, Man., EMT – Paramedic). "We have to start stronger and then use that momentum to get going."
SAIT falls to 4-10 on the season, while Olds College, who are ranked No. 10 in Canada by the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), jump to 11-3.
Just three minutes into the first quarter, the home team found themselves down 10-2. Things didn't get much better afterwards, as SAIT trailed 27-7 heading into the second quarter.
Olds continued their dominance of SAIT in the second, and took a commanding 52-20 lead into the second half.
After the break, SAIT continued to struggle – scoring 17 points in the third quarter, but only two in the final 10 minutes of play (on just 6 per cent shooting).
SAIT's Anegor Wol (1st year, Edmonton, Alta., Academic Upgrading) led the team with 14 points and six rebounds.
Kyla Adams paced the Broncos with 18 points and seven steals.
The teams will finish off their weekend set Saturday night in Olds, Alta.
