Short-handed Trojans fight hard in loss to Broncos
OLDS, ALTA., (Jan. 26, 2019) — The SAIT Trojans women's basketball team will be left wondering what if.
The Trojans fell 64-51 to the host Olds College Broncos in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) game on Saturday night. The 13-point loss saw the Trojans go just 7-for-24 from the free throw line.
"I don't remember the last time we had 24 free throws in a game, so they did what we asked them to, but we couldn't convert," said Trojans head coach Bir Parmar. "Free throw shooting has been something that has not come easy to us this year."
SAIT falls to 4-11, while Olds College moves to 12-3.
On Friday night, the same teams met at SAIT, with the Broncos dominating things to the tune of an 84-39 victory.
"The effort level," Parmar said about the difference between Friday and Saturday night. "We challenged them at halftime to play for the name on the front of the jersey. We came out in the second half and outworked them, and finally started using our brains to get the job done."
Anegor Wol (1st year, Edmonton, Alta., Academic Upgrading) led the Trojans with 14 points and six rebounds. Mel Thera (5th year, Winnipeg, Man., EMT – Paramedic) added nine points and nine rebounds.
Michaela Allen-Guillon led the Broncos with 16 points.
SAIT returns to action this week with a rare Thursday night affair against the visiting St. Mary's University Lightning.
