Bad start, bad finish sinks Trojans
MEDICINE HAT, ALTA., (Nov. 8, 2019) - The start to the game was not good for the SAIT Trojans women's basketball team. The finish was not much better, either.
The Trojans scored a combined 13 points in the first and fourth quarters, as they fell 70-41 to the host Medicine Hat College Rattlers Friday night in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) action.
"Slow start and a pretty poor finish," said Trojans head coach Bir Parmar. "We can't take anything away from this one. We need to leave everything behind. . . That wasn't what I was expecting."
SAIT falls to 1-3 on the season. Medicine Hat improves to 2-3.
One positive from the game saw post Rachel Osczevski (2nd year, Rocky Mountain House, Alta,. Nutrition for Healthy Lifestyles) return to the lineup after missing the first three games of the season. She scored a team-high 17 points and added nine rebounds in the loss.
"Seventeen points and nine rebounds is a pretty average game for her," Parmar said. "She hasn't practiced for the better part of the season. She has a lot more in her. It's nice to have someone like that, but it doesn't help when the rest of the team fails to back it up."
Morgan Muir led the Rattlers with 22 points.
The Trojans will face another tough test Saturday night at home when they host the reigning Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) defending champion Olds College Broncos.
"We have nine new kids to the program, so we knew there were going to be some growing pains. It's just taken a lot longer than I had hoped," Parmar admitted. "We're still focusing on how we finish the year, not how we start. Hopefully, by the time we get rolling, we're still in this thing."
